Rules for the Evaluation Contest.

  • Each contestant will listen to the same test spech (5 – 7 minutes), so that all will have equal opportunity for evaluation.

  • After conclusion of the test speech all contestants shall leave the room and they have 5 minutes to prepare their evaluation using materials of their choice.

  • After finishing the 5 minutes preparation time the first evaluator is called back into the room and the materials are collected from the other contestants.

  • Evaluations are 2 to 3 minutes in length. Minimum time is 1 1/2 minutes… and maximum time is 3 1/2 minutes.

  • The green light will come on at TWO minutes… yellow light at TWO-AND-A-HALF minutes… and the red light will come on at THREE minutes.

  • There will be one minute of silence between contestants to give judges time to complete their tallies, and two minutes of silence after the last contestant to give judges time to complete and turn in their ballots.

Rules for the International Speech Contest

  • There is a 30-second buffer on either side of that time requirement… so to be eligible to place in the contest, speeches must be at least 4 1/2 minutes in length, and no longer than 7 1/2 minutes

  • The green light will come on at FIVE MINUTES…. the yellow at SIX MINUTES… and the red light will come on at SEVEN MINUTES

  • There will be 1 minute of silence between contestants to give judges time to complete their tallies

  • There will be 2 minutes of silence after the last contestant to give judges time to complete their tallies and the chief judge to collect the ballots

  • Each contestant will be given the same table topic, so that all will have equal opportunity for response.

  • In order to ensure no contestant has more preparation time than any other, contestants will be escorted out of the room and remain there until it is their turn to speak.

  • After finishing the table topic, contestants may remain in the room for the duration of the contest.

  • Table Topics are 1 to 2 minutes in length. Minimum time is one minute… and maximum time is 2 1/2 minutes.

  • The green light will come on at ONE minute… yellow light at ONE-AND-A-HALF minutes… and the red light will come on at TWO minutes.

  • There will be one minute of silence between contestants to give judges time to complete their tallies, and two minutes of silence after the last contestant to give judges time to complete and turn in their ballots.
